Our Favourite Iconic Knitwear Looks On The Big Screen

To celebrate all things knitwear this winter, let’s take a trip down memory lane to take a look at the classic films we all know and love. These classic knitwear looks have inspired and shaped our own style choices over the years. So, get ready to relive these incredible and sometimes slightly questionable knitwear looks to hit the screen.

When Harry Met Sally

When Harry Met Sally

This incredible film from the 80’s where two people build up a friendship, before becoming one of the GREATEST onscreen couples, also has some classic knitwear looks that we absolutely cannot get enough of.

Meg Ryan’s selection of turtlenecks are an eighties piece that have stood the test of time. Perfect with high waisted jeans, the turtleneck jumper is a casual classic that can also be teamed with a mini skirt or leather trousers for a night out. The overall knitwear star of the show for us has to be Billy Crystal’s white cable knit jumper. This unisex jumper will never be out of style in the winter months and now we also know that the cable knit has the power to melt hearts- thank you Billy Crystal!

The Holiday

The Holiday

We’ve got more cable knit dreaminess from Cameron Diaz in The Holiday as she swaps out her American City lifestyle for the quaint and snowy Surrey countryside. Cameron Diaz has a sophisticated range of winter hats, cashmere scarves, knitted gloves and chunky knit jumpers with a neutral colour palette of creams, snowy white and grey. Diaz has also made it acceptable to be in bed adorned in your softest knitted hat and scarf, whilst enjoying a glass of wine.

Ferris Bueller's Day Off

Ferris Buellers Day Off

Ferris Buellers Day Off is a classic that is culturally and artistically significant. The wardrobe of the cast is an 80s rush of nostalgia and we simply cannot get enough of Matthew Broderick’s knitted print vest. The vest has become the piece the character is known for wearing, so although it might not be a fashionable look for 2019/20 Menswear, it can be brought for 80’s fancy dress parties! We stan the vest and await its return to fashion.

Home Alone

Home Alone

The Christmas knits are strong in Home Alone. Macauley Culkin’s knitted pop pom hat is actually now a popular item in winter wardrobes for 2019/20. Home Alone does the Christmas knit justice and somehow makes knitwear adorned with reindeers, snowflakes and other seasonal pieces stylish. Culkin’s maroon knitted scarf is also a big winner in our eyes as it has a home-made feel that ups the levels of comfort and warmth we feel when watching this film every December. The film itself has also led to the production of Home Alone Christmas Jumpers which have popular quotes and characters which appear in the film printed on them.
